Over the past decade, art museums have demonstrated their commitment to DEAI (Diversity, Equity, Access, and Inclusion) by diversifying their staff and boards and mounting exhibitions featuring the work of underrepresented artists. However, museums are just beginning to consider the spatial consequences of accessibility beyond code compliance.
In response, JSA/MIXdesign has partnered with the Architectural League of New York to present Making the Inclusive Museum, a lecture and panel discussion.
Event Program
- Joel Sanders, JSA/MIXdesign Principal, will situate contemporary DEAI challenge in a historical context.
- Seb Choe, JSA/MIXdesign Associate Director, will share findings from the MIXmuseum Study that used surveys, interviews, and workshops to gather feedback from museum stakeholders and visitors.
- Ignacio Galán, Assisant Professor at Barnard College, will moderate a panel discussion and Q&A with representatives from Brooklyn Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Queens Museum.
Free for League members. $15 general admission.
